Privacy policy
What we collect: nearly nothing. What stays on your device, and who handles payments.
Effective [Effective date]. SME is operated by SME-EDU LLC. This policy explains how SME (“we”, “us”) handles information when you use the website at https://sme-edu.com.
In short
•
There are no accounts, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking.
•
Lessons, search, your answers and your progress stay in your browser on your device. We never receive them.
•
If an adult buys a plan, Stripe handles the payment. We receive the email address and payment status from Stripe so we can provide the plan and help with it.
•
We do not sell or share personal information.
What stays on your device
The website keeps these in your browser’s storage so it works the way you set it, even offline. They are never sent to us:
•
What you study (the grades and college fields you pick), units and appearance.
•
Recently viewed lessons.
•
Practice answers, test scores and progress.
•
Your plan’s licence and restore code, if you have a plan.
What leaves your device
The website makes network requests for one purpose only: buying, restoring and checking a plan. These requests go to the website’s own purchase functions and to Stripe, and carry only what a purchase needs (the plan chosen, a licence id, Stripe’s session id, the college courses chosen and a promo code, if you enter one). They never include lesson activity, searches or anything typed into a lesson.
When an adult buys a plan, Stripe collects the payer’s email address, card details and billing country or postal code to take the payment, send receipts, calculate tax and prevent fraud. We can see the email address, the plan and its payment history in Stripe; we never see the full card number. Stripe’s use of this information is described in its own privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy.
If a plan is bought with a promo code, we keep the code and the name of the promoter who gave it with that plan in Stripe, so we can apply the offer and pay the promoter their commission. Promoters receive only the number of paying customers and the amounts they paid in total, never names, email addresses or any other customer details.
Our host, Vercel, keeps standard server logs (such as IP addresses and browser type) for a short time to deliver the website and protect it from abuse. We do not use these logs to identify or profile anyone.
Cookies
We do not use cookies for advertising or tracking. The website uses your browser’s local storage only for the features above. Stripe’s payment pages may use their own cookies to process payments securely.
Children
Many people who use the website are children. We do not collect personal information from children. See the Children’s privacy page for details.
How long we keep information
Payment records are kept in Stripe for as long as the plan is active and then as long as tax and accounting laws require (usually up to 7 years). Information on your device stays until you remove it.
Your choices and rights

Remove what is stored on your device: Settings → Your progress → Reset, Settings → Clear recently viewed, or clear this website’s data in your browser.

Ask to see, correct or delete payment information we hold in Stripe by writing to us from the email address used for payment. Some records must be kept for tax and accounting.
•
Depending on where you live (for example California, other US states, the EU or the UK), you may have further rights, such as to access, correct, delete or move your information, or to object to its use. We honor these requests. We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising or profiling.
Where information is handled
We are based in the United States. Stripe and Vercel may process information in the United States and other countries, under their own safeguards for international transfers. Payment information is processed to perform the contract you enter into when buying a plan.
Security
The website is served over an encrypted connection, payments are taken on Stripe’s secure pages, and plan licences are digitally signed. No system is perfectly secure, but because we hold so little, there is very little to expose.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new effective date. We will not start collecting more information without updating this policy first.
